Emotional Father’s Day Surprise For Struggling Dauphin County Man

It was difficult to fight back the tears watching Charles Lanza staring at a brand new big-screen television. The 70-inch Vizio Smart TV now belongs to Charles Lanza.

The past few months have been difficult for Charles. “I have been having pain like you wouldn’t believe,” said Charles.

“Two weeks before my mom passed away in August he was diagnosed with Rheumatoid Arthritis. Then he got COPD, Emphysema, Congestive Heart Failure, and then in April they found Colon Cancer. So it’s really been a struggle and he just went in the hospital for a blood clot,” said Laura Lanza.

Laura entered her dad into the “Give Dad Your Best” contest through Vizio. For the contest Laura expressed how much father means to her, and why he is her hero. She said he has always taken care of her and the rest of the family. And now she wants to give back to him. “Every month this year he’s been in [the hospital]. So we’re hoping to break the cycle here. And I’m very hopeful now that this is going to be taken care of and this will be the end of it,” said Laura.

Representatives from Vizio and Best Buy coordinated with Laura to set up a surprise revealing. Laura told her dad she wanted to buy him a television and took him to Best Buy. As he walked up to a t.v. and pressed the test button a message began to play from his daughter. The message let him know he had won the contest, and that he would be getting A 70 inch t.v. and a sound bar, over $200 in movie credits, and tickets to a movie premiere.
