A Not So Sharp Sharp

Sharp, an LCD TV pioneer, has watched its American market share sink, outpaced by Samsung, Sony and even the upstart Vizio. But the company is making no excuses.

“We’ve lost market share to the magnitude that we can’t go any lower,” said Mikio Katayama, Sharp’s president. Speaking through an interpreter during a meeting at the Consumer Electronics Show, Mr. Katayama said Sharp was hurt because it lost its position with the mass market chains. “We didn’t lose any share from regional retailers,” he said.
