VIZIO Reports Record Black Friday Sales

Company says more than 280,000 Vizio HDTVs were sold during Black Friday weekend, a 40% increase from 2008.

12.01.2009 — Although average spending was down 7.9 percent over the Black Friday weekend, consumers sure were spending on Vizio, according to the company.

The Irvine, Calif.-based TV manufacturer says consumers purchased more than 280,000 Vizio HDTVs over the Black Friday weekend, marking a 40 percent increase from Black Friday 2008.

Vizio is attributing the increase to features such as "TruLED backlights with Smart Dimming, fast 120/240Hz refresh rates and a full product range from 19" to 55."

Other Vizio sales numbers from Black Friday, according to the company:

    * More than 50,000 120/240Hz HDTVs sold for a 945% Year-over-Year (Y/Y) increase
    * More than 20,000 50”+ TVs sold for a 1000% Y/Y increase
    * More than 7,000 HD soundbars sold

“Thanks to the strength and efficiency of our valued retail partners such as Costco Wholesale, Sam's Club, Walmart, Target, BJ's Wholesale, Sears, DELL, Nebraska Furniture Mart, BrandsMart, and Tiger Direct, Vizio has achieved another record-breaking year of Black Friday sales of HDTVs, Blu-ray players, high definition sound bars and high performance HDMI cables," says Laynie Newsome, Vizio co-founder and VP of sales and marketing communications.

"We consistently strive to offer consumers more and are pleased to see the great success of our high performance products which allow us to continue to grow and expand VIZIO products to a wider range of consumers seeking the latest technology at a great value."

Online shopping was up 11 percent to $595 million for Black Friday 2009, according to comScore. Amazon.com and Walmart.com were the most visited sites.
