Vizio has kept its lead in LCD TV market share in the U.S. this quarter, increasing its overall share, although Samsung has narrowed the gap. That's according to the latest quarterly rankings issued by iSuppli Corp. this week.

According to the rankings, Vizio leads with 21.7 percent of share, followed closely by Samsung with 21.3 percent. In the second quarter, the same two companies held the top spot, with Vizio taking 21.4 percent and Samsung 17.8. In this quarter's rankings, Sony was third with 11.9 percent, followed by Toshiba, LG, Panasonic and Sharp.

"Samsung in the second quarter was very aggressive in introducing and marketing its LED-backlit LCD-TVs, allowing it to boost sales of these sets," Riddhi Patel, iSuppli's principal analyst, television systems, said as part of the announcement.
