VIZIO Resurrects High-End Screen Tech For Budget LED TVs


LED televisions (technically, LED LCD televisions) have become a household term. As plasma fades away and OLED remains a toy for the 1 percent, LEDs are inheriting the TV room.

But there's more than one kind of LED television. Budget TV maker Vizio is reviving a higher-quality, generally more expensive technology — called full-array backlighting — for its E-Series of entry-priced TVs. Vizio recently gave Tom's Guide a look at a new TV that uses full-array backlighting to achieve impressive contrast ratios and much better detail in the kinds of dark scenes that swallow up the scenery on lesser TVs. (Vizio plans to bring the technology to it's higher-end TV lines, as well.)
