VIZIO P Series 4K LED LCD Goes Full-Array

LAS VEGAS -- Big V's first shipping foray into 4K, or Ultra High Definition, the P promises to bring all those extra pixels at a price -- as of yet undisclosed -- that challenges the Samsungs, LGs and Sonys of the world. It will be available in 70, 65, 60, 55 and 50 inches.

Its best feature has nothing to do with resolution, however, and everything to do with contrast, a much more important determinant of picture quality. The P has an actual full-array local dimming LED backlight -- our favorite kind, with 64 dimmable zones. It's the same type of backlight found on the highest-end TVs released this year at CES, and if executed correctly, could make the P one of the best-performing 4K TVs on the market. That, combined with Vizio's traditionally aggressive pricing, is a tasty prospect.
