Parental ratings are partly controlled by a table called the Rating Region Table. It defines which program acceptability ratings are possible for a given region or country. This can be used to define parental ratings for several geographical regions, in those cases where ratings may not be the same across the areas that the content is broadcast (this may be more of an issue for satellite broadcasts than for terrestrial or cable broadcasts). Right now, the only geographical regions that are supported are the USA and Canada as one region, and Taiwan as another.
Parents could block programs by using criteria that go beyond the general descriptors of sex, language, and violence used today. For eample: A program has a rating of PG, but contains scenes of cigarette smoking. In the future, it may be possible for a parent to decide to block that program on that specific basis.
VIZIO has new software for selected television models that insures the V-Chip responds to any changes in television and movie ratings. To allow your TV to receive future changes to the Rating Region Table, please provide us with information about your VIZIO and we will contact you.
