Product Review (submitted on February 6, 2010):

Bought this 55 a few days ago at Targert. My 55 RP Sony had a bad panel and it was getting worse. Had to go. Like most tech junkies, did lots of research. Kicked the tires at all the big box resellers, on-line, reviews, you name it we checked it out. Have had a 37 Vizz in the bedroom for a few years, no problems. I was interested in plasma(have an LG) as in the plus 50 sizes, I believe that the picture and value are second to none. There are glare issues, the weight(glass panel), and a few other minor issues, but I don't believe that you can go wrong in the monster size. However, I ended up back with the LCD, which has some issues of it's own. THe higher end Sammy's, Sony's etc. don't warrant the extra $, IMO. They spend tons marketing, thus you pay for that. I did check into the backlits(LED) as well, not quite perfected yet and too pricey as well. Amazon had matched the $1.299 WalMart price, then others shortly followed within days. A great value. I ended up at Target, who had ample stock at my area store. After applying for the Red Card(10% off), the clerk told me it's only good for that day, so I pulled the trigger. For $1,170 it felt like a Black Friday moment. Add in the 3 year extended for $99(not a fan of these but good value), out the door, into my car, for $1,330, with six months to pay at 0% interest. Couldn't pass it up. Wife and I broke down the old set, put the new one on existing glass stand(TV stand comes mounted in box) and had it fired up in minutes. So far, so good, stunning in HD, ok in SD(which I rarely watch). Audio sounded decent, hooked up right away to my surround. Simple set-up, no fancy calibrations to do. Default settings are fine for now. Time will tell, but first impressions are this is a great TV, for a great price. Look for further price reductions as this is no longer manufactured and tons of stock out there.
