Product Review (submitted on October 15, 2009):

My first review I've ever written but have to tell everyone about this very up to date HDTV the VIZIO SV471XVT 240HZ 47" HDTV.

I know this is a little lengthy but my brand new VIZIO SV421XVT HDTV for our living room and this set is absolutle awesome.
Has all the bells and whistles.
I mean right out of the box. Set up to my DVR Comcast cable box and was easy. Standard picture was nice but when I switched over to a HD channel my jaw dropped. Snow covered mountains and wildlife. The HD picture was breathtaking.

I started patting myself on the back when my wife expressed a very pleased kiss on the cheek saying. "OMG the picture is beautiful and so sharp and clear WOW good job honey"

I got mine Monday evening. I set the picture mode on VIVID and Monday Night Football was crystal clear and the uniform colors really popped switched over to watch HBOHD movie for a minute picture still set on VIVID (one of many viewing modes) and in this particular movie shot of the front steps of a courthouse leading to the street, the picture was so clear, clean and smooth I can only compare it to my wife's Soap Opera shows. The picture had that the of appearance was 3D like. Very smooth. Got right up to it and saw no lines what so ever. Almost looked LIVE but it was a movie. The staged Hollywood shots of a residential neighborhood the manicured front lawns and landscape of the peoples homes were so vivid you could tell that the plants and flowers were fake they looked plastic. A little to VIVID maybe. That’s what I’m talking about.

My 55" Mits rear projection HDTV downstairs in my family room that I bought about 7 years ago was top of the line then. The Mit’s TV was calibrated and looks good but the picture on the 240HZ Vizio SV421XVT HDTV is in a class of its own. Just spectacular and the remote runs everything and is easy to program.
Yesterday I came into work with a mission to find the formula to calibrate my Vizio just out of curiosity if maybe I could make the picture even better. So I started googling for calibrations and found about 4 calibration formulas done from calibration disks by people with the SV471XVT and only found 1 for my SV421XVT".
Assuming the similarities I printed the pages out for both and took them home. When I did the calibration for my 42” HDTV the changes in the setting were so minimal compared calibrations to the original.
For example: BACKLIGHT originally out of the box was set at 100 calibration setting off internet was 98. Any of the other calibrations were like 1 or 2 clicks - or + difference.
So in my opinion the default settings in picture setting are SPOT ON right out of the box so your sets settings should be also. The calibration changes I got off the internet were barely even noticeable after I entered them and looked at the picture. I reset the picture back to its original default settings. Perfect
It's your personal viewing preference of how you like your movies, sports, and broadcasts to look. I'm happy with the VIVID Picture MODE on 24/7.
From what you say about the money you want to spend the SV471XVT is around 11 to 1200 and I’ve seen it cheaper.
This set is ready for the future. Mine has 3-4HDMI inputs. Can input Computer, MP3 and Photo and Video Camera.
I have it hooked up to a brand new Vizio Sound bar that I bought off of E-Bay for $156 so your have the extra money to pick one up if you like. They run about $350 regularly. The 47" SV471XVT has a clock and a built in equalizer. The only difference I read between the two sets.
As you can tell I'm very happy with my new Vizio. I think you would be also. Just my 2 cents. Happy Hunting. Mike
