- Good, but room for improvement Review by Jeff
-
The picture is really good, but the screen does show a reflection off ceiling lights that show up during dark scenes. Kind of a Christmas background.
The Hulu connection is not as good as the computer. Called Hulu and Vizio, and they are restricted and cannot share as many shows on the television connect as they are authorized to share on computer. I lost about half of my queue items with Vizio. I also got mixed options with certain shows, and was unable to delete them from the queue via television (had to go on the computer). It gave me the option to add shows that were already there instead of delete them (only on some shows).
I use antenna, and could not download one of the channels I previously received with my old tv. I had it on my Magnovox DVR, so could watch it there through the tv, but Vizio could not find it. I tried repeatedly on original installation and then over several months to tune this (partial channels), but nothing (I have a rotator for my antenna and set it to this specific channel and could not get it). A week ago by accident I was trying again and I hit the wrong option, and it started to do a full tuner scan. I canceled quickly, but it erased all my channels (be careful not to select this option, no turning back). When I re-ran it I had all the channels, finally. So the partial channel tuner did not work well for me.
I also hate it that the time does not show up anywhere. Our room clock is behind a lamp from where I sit and it is annoying that I can no longer just click on my tv to see what time it is.
The Netflix option works great. I like this presentation as much as the computer, and did not notice a reduction in shows, although I didn't really look. With the Hulu problem I hooked up a computer to the tv, and pretty much watch Hulu and Netflix through a computer (but my grandson uses the Vizio app and likes it).
I miss the PIP function also, and being able to switch quickly between shows (to burn up commercials). I have three inputs; tv, computer and dvr, but it takes a bit to transition between the inputs.
One channel has gone to showing up as "DVR" for the guide, with no details, and then a few days later went back to normal and now shows info via the guide. Don't know if this is Vizio or the channel, but assume it is the tv.
For the price this is a good tv, and the picture is probably better than good, give it a really good (just watch the position of lights in the room). But having to go out and buy a new computer tower (old one went out, hoped to save by using Vizio and no computer) bumped the overall price up. I miss some basic functions too, like the clock and PIP, but it does the job. For HuluPlus $8 and Netlflix $16 plus tax per month, plus TV guide at 31 cents per issue (get a copy mailed and their web site has most of my local channels), this is way better than the satelite I used to pay almost $80 a month for, plus I also paid Netflix then too. Saving $70 a month and getting pretty much all the shows I want works for me.(Posted on 1/12/12)

Have had this unit for a while, replaced an RCA DLP. Picture is real-life, sound was great, input capabilities are outstanding. HDCP compliant HDMI is a plus. Antenna HD is much better than any HD channel from my sat box.
Been noticing an issue with sound quality over the past few months - hard to hear dialog in some cases, think it may be lack of adequate speakers i.e. surround so I'm in process of getting a system and it does require HDCP. Bought at a wholesale club, saved some.
Did some research before purchase but not a lot, very happy I bought this model. I also recently purchased another Vizio (smaller one) and extremely happy with it too.
The picture quality on both my Vizio TVs is unmatched to others I've had in the past and is very close to other brands I've seen in stores but I'd still go with Vizio.(Posted on 9/22/11)

- Great Made In USA Product! Review by BobR

Well, It's been 18 months since we replaced our 55", $4800 Pion**r Rear Projection TV. They wanted another $600 to replace the main board for the second time in about 5 years.
We didn't really have time to do any research before we purchased the Vizio VF550XVT1A. We just knew that we needed a new TV that day because we wern't going to pay another $600 for a repair that might not last 5 years again.
I have to say we were a little apprehensive at first about buying a flat screen because of being intimidated by what seemed to be a new technology as we are not electronic geeks by any means. At any rate, my wife handed me the money and told me to go buy a TV and be sure it was big enough to see it comfortably form the far reachs of our 24'x24' living room.
Off to Sam's Club I went and returned with the 55" strapped to the roof of our Blazer....it wouldn't fit inside! LOL! After allowing the TV to acclimate to room temperature, and being in an upright position again overnight we had it up and running the next day in a couple of hours including a pull out 45 degree wall mount.
In summary the VF550XVT1A is, and has been a quality product that we enjoy immensely. And Vizio Support is just as good because when we e-mailed them about Remote Control Codes for our surround sound system we were answered within a matter of hours with the correct codes and proceedure to enter them into the remote. High Quality all the way around and made in the good 'ol USA.(Posted on 2/6/11)
- I Know I Made The Right Choice... Review by Jake

I bought my Vizio 2 years ago; after 2-3 months of research looking for the perfect TV. Still to this day I absolutely love my Vizio and I am very happy with my decision. The picture quality is amazing still and the mounted sound bar is very impressive. I recommend Vizio to everyone I know. Now I am looking for another sound bar; but wish they made a rear wireless one with a subwoofer. Every few months I come back to the Vizio site to check out what they are coming out with next. I love this company and there quality products; and I love the direction they are heading with their new line of advanced technology. Buy a Vizio; you wont be disappointed!!!

- Incredible...Incredible...VIZIOtastic!! Review by Thrillagenius

I've had my TV for over a year now. I was in Sam's Club, and they had this TV for $1300 and they had a blu ray of Wall-E playing on it. For me, it looked as if you could reach out and touch the robot...it was almost 3D like, and this is not a 3D tv!! I am so thoroughly pleased with this tv. The picture is immaculate, I have a ps3 and Hi def uverse cable running through it, so blu rays are amazing. I don't use the speakers as I have a 7.1 surround sound system as my audio. You know you have a good tv when your brother in law comes over, watches the TV, and says "the picture looks too real". What?? WHAT? TOO REAL? Is that even possible? I sit smugly in my living room knowing he's jealous, and he has a 58 inch Sony...i think i got the better deal. Everybody that comes over and watches a blu ray on it, like Avatar, all says "Wow. That tv is amazing!" All I can say, is buy VIZIO. I'm a huge fan! This TV is SUPERB!! Thanks Vizio!!

- Great HDTV Review by Cowboys1966

I've had this 55" LCD HDTV for 16 months, the picture and sound are the same as when I first set it up, PERFECT. Its awesome and will never buy from another company. I'm getting a 47" for the master bedroom soon and I'm looking for good deals from VIZIO. You won't be disappointed.

- Love the video clarity Review by JohnSeb
-
We've had this TV for 9 months and love it, especially the HD quality and large screen plus the ease of use. Very intuitive and no real need to read the instruction manual. We've used the Netflix apps with great satisfaction as well as hooking up a PC to the side panel. But today, we wanted to view Christmas photos from a USB memory stick and found out that these ports aren't activated and haven't been for over a year. The panel looks impressive, but for what we need, it's overkill especially having 3 ports that are ineffective. So, hopefully signing up at Vizio.com "Newsletters" will help and maybe we'll receive a notice that we can upgrade the TV so that these ports are activated.

- Wouldn't trade it for anything... Except maybe another Vizio! Review by Dino

This TV is awesome!!! I got this TV (refurb) about a year ago from Tiger Direct and there is nothing I've seen that's any better. A month after I got this, my friend called me over to take a look at his new Samsung LED TV and told me how the best buy guy had to come out and calibrate it and did all this junk to it to make look (as he put it) unbelievable!
I told him, "you're right, it is unbelievable!". That you spent nearly twice as much as I did for a 42" LED that's supposed to be cutting edge and my $1200 55" Vizio blows that away!(Posted on 10/24/10)
- 11 months...and wonderful Review by Deano
-
Have had mine now for 11 months - bought at BJs Wholesale Club and have Dish Satellite.
Could not be happier. When I watch MSNBC (not too often as I'm a Conservative) on HD - it's like I'm looking thru a window into their studio in the next room. Truly, see frizzy hair and the smallest blemish. So picture quality is wonderful as is the sound. I would never buy another TV that does not have TruVolume - great feature.
Only suggestion - for flat screens and laptops; the black piano finish. Why? Always fanfare about the non-glare screen and such - then the mfr surrounds the screen with mirror-like finish. Bit irritating.
Love Vizio - and that it's a USA brand. Good for you guys!!! Wonderful features, quality, and reliability.
Thank you for a great product and not letting me down.(Posted on 8/18/10)
VIZIO VF550XVT1A 55-inch LCD HDTV Reviewed with Sound Bar with Wireless Subwoofer
