Pretty darn good Review by steve

I've tried to enter reviews several times now, logged in or not.

We also have the sound degradation, but never set up a service call .

The picture is great with HD cable DVR, and Sony PS3 for gaming.

Sometimes when switching between one input and another, we may have a series of blue screens before it latches onto the signal and settles down. It isn't very long, so that isn't a huge deal. The sound warbling or cut out is more annoying with the quick fix of either pausing the DVR or shutting down and restarting the TV itself.

Why is it when I log into Vizio.com, the TV I registered is not listed so if I am not home when I come to look or compare, the model number will allude me.

Today I added my model number to my shipping 'company name'.

pretty darn good Review by jeepsteve92xj

I also have the sound problem, but never managed to get a service call or return it to Sam's Club.
The picture is great. We use it with HD cable DVR and a Sony PS3 for games.
the 42" was a nice replacement for the 36" CRT that had to be more than a foot from the wall in order to swivel over for viewing angles or to make connection. That thing was 270 pounds!
We did realize that the 42" is perspectively about the same as the 36" due to the face being over two feet further away. Now I'd put a 55" or even 65" in the same spot in a heartbeat.
I do keep hoping to see a firmware update for the sound breakdown problem.

Great TV, unfortunate circumstances like Ben Review by Bob

My experience was much the same as Ben and his "Unfortunate Circumstances". Only my sound cutting out problems started happening almost right out of the box last December. Problems occurred very random and intermittent. I have to agree that customer service has been very good in dealing with my problem. I couldn't have expected better from their customer service. I am also now waiting for a replacement set which I am confident will go very smoothly and professionally.

I would not hesitate to recommend this set. Quality and Price was just right. And, well, stuff happens with any product from time to time. When it does, you want the customer service to be easily reached and prompt with solutions and warranties to mean something. I have no complaints with their customer service thus far.

Great TV, Unfortunate Circumstances Review by Ben

This was my first LCD HDTV purchase and after researching specs and quality for months, I purchased this model. It's an amazing TV for it's price. The picture quality is amazing, the sound is impressive to say the least and the input options are abundant, which is nice when you have Cable, PS3, Wii, Blu-Ray and a Computer that you use it for.

Only problem I had was after about 3 months, the sound starting going out. at first it would skip a little bit after watching TV for a few hours. After progressing for about 6 months, the sound would skip rapidly and then go out multiple times a day. I called this in to Vizio and Vizio sent out a rep for a repair 7 days later. After the repair did not work, I called Vizio again and they happily are sending a replacement right now.

I am overly satisfied with Vizio's Customer Service, and recommend Vizio to anyone.

Crowd Pleaser Review by Liochem2010

After shopping at many stores and viewing online many others, I had set my sights on this model. My 42" Vizio is just the right size and man does it complete my home theatre setup. Out of the box the set is ready to go. Hooked it up to my little HDTV antenna, my HDTV cable box and also to my Dolby digital receiver. The picture quality using my outdoor antenna is unbelievably realistic. Watching the world cup, movies using my blue ray player (dvd or blu ray disc) is something I look forward to when it is time to enjoy some tv time. I consider this to be the best bang for the buck and you cannot go wrong with this model or this brand. It is the bomb and I also had been getting so many compliments on the look and feel of the set other than the picture.
thanks Vizio!

great TV Review by None

I bought this TV in June of 2009 at Walmart and saved $100 by waiting a few days and getting it "Site to Store". It was my first HDTV. I bought this TV in stead of the XVT and saved several hundred dollars. I subscribe to Dish Network, and I upgraded to their HD package. The picture is great. I watch alot of sports, and the picture is awesome!!Some have said the sound is "tinny", but as far as I am concerned the basic found is fine for general TV watching. For movies I always turn on the surround sound, so the basic sound is not a factor. I would recommend this TV to anyone!!

Researched for the Best & Got It Review by SniddlePoof

I did a lot of research on all those TV abbreviations and I feel the VT420M was the best deal a person could get. The TV is Outstanding! The best I've ever owned or seen.

I bought through Wal-Mart ($748) with Site-to-Store.... never do that if you want it anytime soon. It took 11 days to travel 125 miles. I could've gone and gotten it myself and the round-trip would've taken 4 hours, at best.

The 40 watt speakers are twice as good as you normally get in an LCD. I can hear it set to a "15" in my living room. I don't need a sound bar, home theater or need to put the volume up to even close to the maximum.

The picture is so real, like 3D real. The smooth motion is awesome. You won't waste money on this TV.

comparing tv's Review by danpok

Went looking for a new flat screen tv, Walmart, Sears, Best Buy and Target. Knew i wanted a Vizio just from friends comments about them. At Best Buy, the salesman tried to sell me a Insignia saying it was comparable to a Vizio. I had already seen the VT420M on display at Walmarts and the Insignia was not comparable, told the salesman this and he got angry over it, said to me and i quote" Best Buy used to sell them and stopped, and I'm proud they did, I dont like Vizio.." So i told him in a fairly salty language what he could do with the Insignia and went back to Walmarts and got the Vizio VT420M and am mighty proud i did, thank you Vizio for a great product.
