Vizio XWH200 Wireless HDMI Audio/Video Kit

Wireless HDMI technology has been around for a few years now--but with entry-level kits costing upward of $800, it appealed primarily to dedicated home-theater enthusiasts. Now, however, Wireless HDMI kits like Vizio's XWH200 ($230) are reaching the market at prices that, while still not cheap for a TV accessory, aren't outrageously high, either. And fortunately, the lower price tag doesn't entail a corresponding drop in quality.

Wireless HDMI caters to people with wall-mounted HDTVs. A properly mounted TV can look very elegant and can free up a lot of space in a cramped room, but once you start using it, it can be kind of a pain: Either you mount it with a bracket that lets you put your cable box, game console, Blu-ray player, and whatever else you plug into your TV up against the wall with it (making them harder to access when you're switching discs and so on), or you let them sit on the floor below the TV (leaving your wall an unsightly mess with black cables snaking down from the TV).

VIZIO VBR122 Review: A Basic, Inexpensive Blu-ray Player

If you're looking for a bargain-priced Blu-ray player, the Vizio VBR122 makes an excellent choice. For $110 (as of November 3, 2011), you get very good image quality and a large selection of streaming Internet services. You also get a nifty remote control that becomes a QWERTY keyboard when you flip it over.

As television accessories become more Internet-oriented, users are finding themselves having to enter text--usually passwords and search terms--into them. A conventional remote control gives you only number and arrow buttons for handling this job, making it an annoying chore. Remote-control phone apps offer an option, but they're not a cure-all.

VIZIO Theater 3D Wins PopSci Best of What's New

This year, several HDTV manufacturers scrapped clunky, expensive active-shutter 3-D glasses for lighter, more affordable passive ones. Vizio pioneered the switch. The company was the first to adopt the polarizing standard used by RealD, the largest maker of big-screen 3-D. Left and right images sit on alternating lines on the screen, and those lines are each polarized to match up with either the left or right lens in pairs of polarized glasses.

If you love movies, chances are good that you've already invested in a big, beautiful HDTV. But while the picture rocks, your sound may not be as deep and rich as you'd like: It's hard to fit a lot of speaker power into those flat screens.

Hulu Plus is finally coming to the Vizio Tablet, and to celebrate users will get three months of the service for free.

Hulu Plus will be added to existing users’ Visio Tablets via a software update soon. Or, if you don’t have a Vizio Tablet yet, it will come preinstalled if you do buy the device. Either way, you’ll get three free months of Hulu Plus as soon as you launch the app on your Vizio Tablet. After the three months, you’ll of course have to pay the $7.99 a moth charge to continue with the service. Vizio’s idea is that you can use Hulu Plus on your tablet, then continue your show or movie on your Vizio TV’s Hulu Plus app.
