While I'm not about to ditch my reference home theater, I'll be the first to admit I've enjoyed my time with Vizio's new sound bar and wireless subwoofer - so much so, I actually found myself carting Blu-rays up to my bedroom system over my reference rig.

I'm a big fan of "America's number 1" LCD HDTV provider, VIZIO, and its wide
range of home entertainment products. I've reviewed two previous LCD HDTV
models (a 42-inch and a 47-inch), but I wanted to review something bigger
and better. And I got the opportunity with the monster 55-inch XVT LCD HDTV,
which has an incredible picture and sound. Speaking of sound, I am also
reviewing VIZIO's very cool Sound Bar with wireless subwoofer which gives
fantastic sound, even if it isn't comprised of five or seven speakers.

The TRU LEDs of the VF551XVT are plentiful, and addressable by zone, for blacks like you've probably never seen on LCD before.

Someone figured out that if we want a dark area of the screen to be really dark, we should try turning off the backlight behind it. And then they figured out a way to do it. The VIZIO VF551XVT LCD HDTV packs 960 white LEDs grouped into 80 independent "Smart Dimming" segments that can be brightened, dimmed or switched off completely as need be. As a secondary bonus, LEDs are inherently more energy-efficient than CCFLs, so if some of them are turning off intermittently while we watch, the electricity savings increase even further.
