- I'm convinced! Review by New Believer
-
Okay, okay, I will admit, no one was more skeptical about buying a Vizio than I was. After literally a year of researching and comparing all the major (and minor) brands, I finally made a Vizio purchase, a 42” 240Hz LCD through Dell.com at a spectacular price, only $699! I must say, I am convinced! The picture is absolutely amazing! We don’t have cable, only local channels…most broadcasted in HD. We were truly amazed at the sharpness and colors. Even non-HD programs look great.
As for movies, I purchased a Sony Blu-ray DVD player prior to the TV purchase and, as expected, DVD movies live up to the hype. Have not played any actual Blu-ray movies yet, but I’m sure they will meet my expectations as well. And for video games, the Wii games look much better than standard TV (although I’m aware that Wii graphics are not comparable to either Xbox or PS3). Overall, we are quite pleased with our purchase and would recommend it to others.

Bought this a few months ago, my fiance was not into the whole HD tv experience. After installing and connecting to my audio system I put on a blueray movie for her and all I heard from her was, "Why didnt you do this sooner?" She loved it.
I found the imaging and quality exceptional. I had been shopping and researching HDtvs for over a year and found the Vizio devices to be a much better choice. Not just the price but the features and technology as well.(Posted on 4/30/10)

All I can say is AWESOME the picture is incredible...I was watching a phillips 52" rear projection. The colors are just truly spectacular I didn't realize I was missing out. With my PS3 and XBOX 360 games come alive and blu-ray has never looked so good. Good value good picture easy setup and even looks better than my father-in law's 55 inch Sony he bought a few weeks ago. Thinking that I may need another Vizio for the bedroom. Great job Vizio great value in these hard times.

- Incredible ! Review by Picture Fanatic
-
As a first time LCD buyer I wanted to make an educated purchase and not jump on the first "good buy" that I came across. Every time I was shopping, the Vizio TVs always stood out as having the best picture quality. The clincher for me was when I saw this TV for $699 at BJ's. When I took it home and connected it to my DirecTV receiver, I have to say I wasn't impressed but I knew there were better things ahead. The unimpressed feeling only lasted for 2 days. That was when I upgraded to DirecTV HD. WOW! I know many people that have other brands of HD TVs and none of them come close to the picture quality of a Vizio. They are all jealous now. My wife and I had some friends over last night for a family event and the premiere of "Life" was on DiscoveryHD. Once the others saw the quality of the picture on our TV they all want to get one. Keep it up Vizio!!!

- great tv...great price Review by babs
-
This is my first purchase of an LCD or even a big TV like this and the picture is amazing! The price was well below what anything else was with a better warranty and frankly a better picture than the more expensive TVs. The only problem I have had is programming the universal remote to work with my DVD player and surround sound but looking at the reviews it seems like the customer service is good so I'm not really worried about that. It was a great buy and I'll be getting another one to replace the one in my room as well. I am definitely a lifetime customer!

We purchased this TV a few weeks ago and have been loving the picture quality. It's our first Vizio, but the second LCD in our house. The picture and features are every bit as good as our much more expensive Samsung. Watching the winter olympics in HD on this 240 Hz. TV has been wonderful.

I've owned 4 Vizios', this being my fourth. Overall, the best TV you can buy! Vizio is the #1 LCD Seller! I absolutely love Vizio and their customer service is SUPERB* when their is an issue with something. My first tv didn't work correctly, I phoned Vizio and they had a replacement out that day!!!! Where can you get service like that? It's unbelievable how Vizio treats customers' until you experience it! (Not to wish anyone a problem but it feels great that the excellent customer support is there when and if you do have an issue.) Just bought this one, brought it home and unpacked. Picture was great!!!! Noticed one burnt pixel... Called Vizio, I have a brand new tv coming from them now! I don't have to package anything someone will come to my home remove the old one and give me the new boxed one and SET IT UP FOR ME! You can't beat that! Once a Vizio, always a Vizio!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Thanks V!

The picture is awesome. Blu-Ray movies almost seem like 3D. I use a surround system, but the sound in the TV is great too. I could not be more pleased with this purchase. Bought it at Sam's for $698. What a value!

I have been wanting to get a new 42' lcd for my bedroom for a while now. It was between a Toshiba 240hz and the Vizio sv421xvt. Decided on splurging on this bad boy. For one the price from Costco was a steal $699.99 for this much tv. # 2 Costco extends the warranty by another year which was a no brainer. # 3 we all ready have a 32' vizio in our sons room and we all absolutely love it. I have this one for HD viewing and Video games. I must say this set beats out my 50" Panasonic plasma for clarity and over all picture. Movies have that 3d effect which if you don't like you can switch off. XBOX 360 never looked better. buy it!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

- 240 Hz STEAL!!!!! Review by Picky Shopper
-
I have been researching LCD TV's after Christmas. Had my search narrowed down to Vizio and Samsung. Wanted a 120 Hz for sure. Vizio had them available in more sizes under 42" and reasonably priced. Samsung was hard to find in 120 Hz under 42' without breaking the bank for me. I was dead set on the Vizio 37" 120 Hz because of the price and quality. THEN, just like many others I found this 42" 240 Hz at Sam's for $698.00. This was too good of a deal to pass. This was my 1st LCD TV purchase and could not be more satisfied with what I got. I feel like I stole this TV from Sam's. The picture quality is AWESOME and AMAZING!!! That's how I felt before I even got HD upgrade from Direct TV. Had my questions about Vizio, but not anymore. I"M SOLD. This TV was so easy to set up, my 10 year old could do it. Thank you Vizio for such a great LCD TV experience. I will be back to buy from you again.

After doing some extensive research on the Internet for a quality HDTV, I was amazed at finding this 42" XVT model at a very affordable price. Never owning a Vizio before i was a bit sceptical. Although i have been hearing some very good things about Vizio so, I purchased it and I have to say WOW! What a beautiful Television. This is my first HDTV and i'm hooked. Thanks for offering a great product at a great price.

We bought this TV at Sams last weekend for a super deal. I was skeptical dropping this kind of cash on an unfamiliar brand. So far it is wonderful. Unbelievable picture even without cable or satelite. The remote spazzed out 4 days later and I called customer service after attempting to reprogram it myself. They are promptly sending a replacement remote. Good customer service ranks highly in my book and I am very pleased! Nice work Vizio. Kudos to your employees and company integrity. Stand behind your products and Im a customer for life.

Just set this TV up hung on the wall in our bedroom the picture is wonderful makes you feel like your part of the show. I have a 60in pioneer and 37in sharp this thing blows them away for picture quality. Just hope they bring this out in 60in or larger so I can replace my pioneer, my only regret is I bought mine before they went on sale (848.00) at Sams Club half tempted to go buy another one at (698.00) sure I could find some place to put it

I've had this TV for a few months now, replaced a 37" Vizio (had 3 years and is in bedroom now, good TV too), which replaced a 32" Sharp Aquos which I returned cuz of a blue vertical line the TV got after a couple of weeks and poor customer service dealing with that. This is an AWESOME TV at an AWESOME price. As long as Vizio keeps it up, I'm a fan and plan to stay loyal for life.

This is my third HD Vizio TV. I purchased the first 37 inch Vizio at Sam's Club, had to take it back within 4-5 months due to the back-lighting on the screen turning green. In turn, got another 37 inch upgrade Vizio and has never looked back. That's been over 2 years ago. Just purchased Vizio's 42 inch XVT, their products continue to get better and better. I highly recommend Vizio HDTV's. Thanks Vizio for your great products.

-
I just bought this tv at Sams Club after reading the reviews and then getting the special pricing from sams via email.
Got this home and setup in no time at all. Very easy hookup and setup procedure. In about 15 minutes it was running. Nice remote, clean lines and stunning design. Turned the set on and W O W. Nothing short of amazing. Visio has done its homework. I have 3 LCD flat panels and Visio has taken the cake on all of them. When they finally release the 72", I'll be coming back for the home theatre size set. Value....yes, quality....top of the line, and you can't beat the price. Even the packaging says something about the quality and attention to the details. An American owned company too. Visio, you have got my attention. Go get em!

This was the best ever. $698 at Sams Club. Picture is so crisp and clean. In HD on Directv the scenes seem to jump out of the screen. Buy this TV. This is my 2nd Vizio in my house. I have a 32" Plasma hanging in my bedroom. Vizio is the only TV I will buy from now on.

What a awesome tv. Bought it yesterday at Sams club for $698. Had looked at them three weeks ago but something said to pass for now. When stopped at Sams on Friday to buy the tv we could not find it among the tvs. We were so upset. Asked a salesperson and he told us that they were on sale in the center isle (they were $848).
He showed us where and I said awesome its ours. He put it on a cart and put it up front until we were through shopping. We were so excited. $150 off now someone told us to wait and we are glad we did.
This tv is awesome. The biggest job was to lug the old 180lb. tv out the door so we could start enjoying our new one. Nothing to it. So easy to set up. So clear.
Vizio has got their act together. This is our 2nd Vizio. Have a 22 inch in the basement office area. We will never buy any other brand.
To all of you who need to purchase a new tv run don't walk to Sam club to purchase this tv.
Keep up the good work Vizio.(Posted on 1/31/10)

I bought this TV today at Sam's Club for $698. I bought a 40 inch Sony Bravia two weeks ago and took it back after Sam's Club dropped the price of this TV by $200. I work in the Electronics section of Sam's Club and see all of the TVs and get to evaluate the pictures. I am truly impressed with the quality of the SV421XVT. The picture is almost life like. I can't wait to see a Blu-ray movie on it. Now I will have to get surround sound.

I am loving this Vizio SV431XVT, I bought from Sam's Club almost 2 weeks ago ( $848). I work for Walmart and have seen Vizio TV's and many other brands, but this is the BEST one. The difference between !20HZ and 240HZ is worth moving up to. I also added a Samsung Blu-Ray with Netflix access and wireless, also WoW to Blu-Ray. I'm hooked up to Verizon Fios and as they say " This is Big. " I've seen the same Vizio TV hooked up to Cable and Satillite and they don't come close to the picture I get w/fios. If you can get the same combination go for it, because it's worth it.

- Excellent bang for the buck! Review by KoalaCowboy
-
After nearly 4 years in my house, I finally decided it was time to upgrade my family room TV from the Vizio 32" LCD to a 42" LCD.
Research complete, I chose the SV421XVT for a number reasons; 1) price, 2) 240Hz refresh, 3) breadth of features.
Setup was pretty simple, though I will say that the included batteries for the remote 'may' need to be replaced immediately, as it seems that the remote has a difficult time controlling the TV.
I have not played with it much yet, but I will say that overall, I will give this LCD a 97 out of 100! Definitely worth the $$(Posted on 1/24/10)

First Flat panel LCD TV purchase. This was bought to replace our 8 year old Mitsu projection screen tv. Oops - the only mistake this turned out to be was we should have bought the 55". Super TV. We love the picture (clarity, color, definition, etc). Will be adding the sound system next (VIZIO) ~ you have me convinced that you are on top of your game...

Unit was up and running so fast that I was almost dissappointed looking for more setup steps. Turned unit on, set language, set input, and tuned tv to channel 3 and I was watching the most vivid picture that I have ever seen. Called the wife in and she noted that it was a lot of red in the picture. It just so happened that I was watching the Atlanta Hawks and their Red warmups was so bright that she thought that the screen had a red tint. Vizios are head and shoulders above the rest. I am now all Vizio LCD in my house (6).

Well...I do have a lot to say about this 42" TV! The picture is better than I thought and I am so glad that I spent the extra $$ to upgrade to this 240Mhz over the 120Mhz unit. I was able to see another VISIO 42" 120Mhz TV right next to this one when we purchased it and you could clearly tell a difference in the two, knowing only that the true difference was the refresh speed. We had a party last night and we had a few family members asking if they were watching a Blu-Ray movie because it was so clear. In fact it was a $30 DVD player using the component video cables!!! If the picture is that clear with our DVD player...I can't hardly wait to see what Blu-Ray looks like using HDMI!! The colors on the screen are beautiful, and the images are crisp and clear. We upgraded from a 30" widescreen SDTV to this one and all I can say is, why did we wait this long! Movies seem to come to life with extreme clarity and crispness to them. We also are using this as a family computer monitor for a computer in our living room ( huge selling point for us ) and the large screen can be easily read from about 15' away. The only real complaint so far is that the remote IR sensor is in the far right bottom corner. We had our Christmas tree next to the TV and in order to use the remote we had to make sure we were not on an angle to the right ( not sure why they did not center it to the unit to make sure nothing would block it ). For the price....you really can not go wrong with this unit!!!

We bought this TV last week from Sam's. This is our 2nd Vizio. The other is a 37" 60 hz model and man does this one put the other to shame. They both have great picture quality, but the sharpness & clarity on this one is the best. Can't wait to watch the Daytone 500 on this TV. Will definitely buy a Vizio if the need arises.

- Great Picture in HD Review by Charles

We purchased this set for our family room.
The set-up was a breeze.
We bought this a week after buying the 32 inch 120 hz Vizio for our bedroom.
We get 5 HD channels on Charter cable and the picture is awesome.
Watching a football game on an HD channel is a new and great experience.
On the other channels, the picture sometimes has a distortion around people depending on the background. This is disappointing.
Guess this will force me to get an HD receiver from either cable or satellite.
Watching a BD movie or a DVD movie is fantastic.
BD players really improve the DVD on an HD TV.
We also have a PS2 and a Wii attached, both work well on the set.
Overall I am happy with this set and expect many years of use.(Posted on 1/6/10)
- Better than Sony Review by Bad Sony
-
Just before Thanksgiving, I bought a Sony HDTV and Sony BluRay. It had BDLive, but I spent $93 to have a tech tell me that the bluray does nothing more than play DVD's and Blurays. So I brought the bluray back to Costco and got a Samsung bluray and now I am able to load my netflix movies through netflix stream and watch them.
My Sony TV was a 40 TV and the brightness was always dark. I didn't like that. So i ended up bringing the Sony back to Costco just after the new years and bought this VIZIO 42" SV421XVT. Wow, what a difference, 240 HZ, 1920x1080, over a billion colors, 50:000 to 1 contrast (Sony was 20,000:1) Stereo Surround Sound, the color and brightness always seem to be right unlike the Sony television. Plus, Costco has this television at an awesome price as well: $849.00
I haven't had this television all of 2 hours since writing this review at the same time I am sitting here watching a movie on my new VIZIO that was streamed from Netflix through my bluray, but so far this system is the best. As time goes on, I am sure I will get used to the different functions. I am sure glad that Costco has a generous return policy on electronics, 90 days, cause I didn't want to get stuck with that Sony. And if for some reason for the first 90 days I am not happy with this, I can return it as well, but so far I am happy.(Posted on 1/3/10)

I bought this set today after three months of research and in-person visits to various stores to view side-by-side comparisons. This set is by far the sharpest, clearest set with the most true color of all. On top of that the 240 HZ makes sports (this is bowl season) clear and smooth in full action. I compared all brands and LCD vs. Plasma. There was no real competition. The Sony for $500 more was not comparable. The Plasmas (all) were not even in the same realm. It was very easy to set up. We were in the door, out of the box, hooked up and watching within 20 minutes; that includes all adjustments. I HIGHLY recommend this set to anyone.

After months of looking at LCD TV's and researching I ended up with the VIZIO SV421XVT and haven't regretted it one minute. At first I was using a S video cable and was amazed with the picture but the S video cable was changed out to a HDMI cable ( to solve an issue with my HF transciever ) to and the picture quality was like looking through a window. The HDMI cable is key to a perfect picture. I will definitely go with VIZIO again. You just can't beat the XVT series.

I just bought the
SV421XVT
42" LCD HDTV
Model#SV421XV and I didn't expect the picture to be so vivid and crisp. Vizio has done an excellant job with the SV421XVT. I have a Mitsubishi 55" High Def that I've had for 6 years but this Vizio has a far better picture than that one. I bought it at Wal-Mart for $897.00. It is well worth the money. Kudos to Vizio.(Posted on 12/24/09)

- Currently the best TV Review by Thom

We have had this TV (42") for almost 1 month now. Everyone that has come over has had nothing but amazing remarks for color speed of frames (football full motions no streaking or blur) it has a great viewable from every where in our living room. Some even have questioned the size thinking it is bigger then 42" I can attest to it being the best set on the market. We pump the sound through our stereo for movies (not 6 channel surround just stereo) and you hear sounds as if in 3d. quite awesome. Some friends who have recently purchased are shock to find out that this is cheaper also much better then theirs. If you are concerned about being "Green" the current draw is 143watts replacing my 950watt CRT! Thank you Vizio for a great TV at a great price.

I now have 2 Vizios. 26" for the breakfast nook and this 42" 240 HZ in the family room. The other reviewers have already said it. It's a great tv. I paid $915 tax and delivered from Sam's Club. Of course, you can find cheaper 42 inchers, but this one is most excellent. Happy viewing!

- Costco and Vizio - Perfect Together Review by BigMatt
-
My family has enjoyed our Vizio LCD HDTV for years, and it's never let us down, so when it came time for me to pick up a HDTV for my parents, Vizio was the obvious way to go.
Although we had no reason to believe that the unit would be anything but completely reliable, purchasing through Costco - which extends the warranty to two years - provided us with additional peace of mind (and a great price). Vizio certainly selected a spectacular retail partner in Costco.
Thanks to Vizio's innovative packaging and clear labeling, it took about two minutes to have the TV up and running. Once the cable box became active, we were treated to a stunning picture and clear (if not exceptionally loud) sound. With some of the high-definition nature channels, it's as if you're looking out a window. The beautiful, backlit remote is straightforward and comprehensive.
Watching sporting events on this TV is treat - there is absolutely no blurring or "trails" no matter how fast the action gets. DVD playback is spectacular; I can't wait to see the picture from Vizio's Blu-Ray player when I get it for my parent this holiday season.
In sum, this is an excellent HDTV for a compelling price, sold by a manufacturer/retailer pairing that stands behind the product. You need look no further than this Vizio at your local Costco.

Had this TV up and running in 5 minutes. Idiot proof. Beautiful picture, decent sound. The price is right for a set of this quality, you can't go wrong. I love the smooth scrolling picture though it takes getting used too. Remote is easy to use and operates all necessary functions well. I hope it lasts for a long time. Probably the best picture I've seen on a 42" and I have been looking around for a while. I highly recommend it :)

- All the bells and whistles with a Breathtaking Picture Review by Mike
-
My first review I've ever written but have to tell everyone about this very up to date HDTV the VIZIO SV471XVT 240HZ 47" HDTV.
I know this is a little lengthy but my brand new VIZIO SV421XVT HDTV for our living room and this set is absolutle awesome.
Has all the bells and whistles.
I mean right out of the box. Set up to my DVR Comcast cable box and was easy. Standard picture was nice but when I switched over to a HD channel my jaw dropped. Snow covered mountains and wildlife. The HD picture was breathtaking.
I started patting myself on the back when my wife expressed a very pleased kiss on the cheek saying. "OMG the picture is beautiful and so sharp and clear WOW good job honey"
I got mine Monday evening. I set the picture mode on VIVID and Monday Night Football was crystal clear and the uniform colors really popped switched over to watch HBOHD movie for a minute picture still set on VIVID (one of many viewing modes) and in this particular movie shot of the front steps of a courthouse leading to the street, the picture was so clear, clean and smooth I can only compare it to my wife's Soap Opera shows. The picture had that the of appearance was 3D like. Very smooth. Got right up to it and saw no lines what so ever. Almost looked LIVE but it was a movie. The staged Hollywood shots of a residential neighborhood the manicured front lawns and landscape of the peoples homes were so vivid you could tell that the plants and flowers were fake they looked plastic. A little to VIVID maybe. That’s what I’m talking about.
My 55" Mits rear projection HDTV downstairs in my family room that I bought about 7 years ago was top of the line then. The Mit’s TV was calibrated and looks good but the picture on the 240HZ Vizio SV421XVT HDTV is in a class of its own. Just spectacular and the remote runs everything and is easy to program.
Yesterday I came into work with a mission to find the formula to calibrate my Vizio just out of curiosity if maybe I could make the picture even better. So I started googling for calibrations and found about 4 calibration formulas done from calibration disks by people with the SV471XVT and only found 1 for my SV421XVT".
Assuming the similarities I printed the pages out for both and took them home. When I did the calibration for my 42” HDTV the changes in the setting were so minimal compared calibrations to the original.
For example: BACKLIGHT originally out of the box was set at 100 calibration setting off internet was 98. Any of the other calibrations were like 1 or 2 clicks - or + difference.
So in my opinion the default settings in picture setting are SPOT ON right out of the box so your sets settings should be also. The calibration changes I got off the internet were barely even noticeable after I entered them and looked at the picture. I reset the picture back to its original default settings. Perfect
It's your personal viewing preference of how you like your movies, sports, and broadcasts to look. I'm happy with the VIVID Picture MODE on 24/7.
From what you say about the money you want to spend the SV471XVT is around 11 to 1200 and I’ve seen it cheaper.
This set is ready for the future. Mine has 3-4HDMI inputs. Can input Computer, MP3 and Photo and Video Camera.
I have it hooked up to a brand new Vizio Sound bar that I bought off of E-Bay for $156 so your have the extra money to pick one up if you like. They run about $350 regularly. The 47" SV471XVT has a clock and a built in equalizer. The only difference I read between the two sets.
As you can tell I'm very happy with my new Vizio. I think you would be also. Just my 2 cents. Happy Hunting. Mike

Purchase my VIZIO SV421XVT at Sam’s Club for $848.00. Tammy the Sam’s Associate told me about the Plus memebership and getting another year of warranty for free. Plus this additional warranty is added on after the factory warranty runs out.. So now I have two full years of warranty. Sports look great on this LCD TV. Football and Golf are crstal clear and no blurred motion (240Hz). The installation instructions are well written and the set up was a snap. I switch between TW cable and RCA digital anntenna for channels selection. This remote makes that simple. Overall at this time I would give the set 9.75 out of 10. Time will tell if this VIZIO LCD TV set lasts and if the design/manufacturing qaulity is sound. But if you are shopping for quality at a reasonable price this is the VIZIO LCD TV for you.

Picked this tv up at costco for $899. I did quite a bit of research and this tv just couldn't be beat for quality at this price point. The pictue in both HD and standard def is much better than anticipated. DVD's look phenomenal. The sound quality is ok, but at $899 I'm not complaining. Overall, this tv gets an 8.5 out of 10. If you're looking for a quality LCD under a grand then look no further.
